Ongoing Restoration of Ancient Sites

Introduction

There are currently two Restoration/Renovation Projects under way. These are to restore two ancient sites that have belonged to the Mutt. Each has buidings and Sannidhis that have been neglected for centuries and are in a dilapidated state unfit for occupation. One is the site at Koppal (Srirangapattana) near Mysuru and the other at Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), the location of the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna Rivers in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.

Koppal Mutt Restoration Project

The Koppul site is of historic importance to the Mutt, since it is here that the Mutt was first when it was moved from the Tirumala Hills several centuries ago during the time of Peria Parakala Swami. It was the headquarters of the Mutt till the end of the 19th century when it was moved to its present location in Mysuru. The Restoration project includes the construction of the Lakshmi hayagriva Sannidhi, and the temple, quarters for the priest and staff, place for Acharyan tostay during his visit and also a Goshaala (Cow pen). The work was started in 2018 with support from the Karnataka Government and Mutt’s Corpus funds. It has progressed well since then. The Mutt appeals for donations from the devotees to complete the project.

The Prayagraj Mutt Restoration Project

This ancient unique site, now going by the name of “Sri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir” at Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj (formerly, Allahabad) U.P. India belongs to Our Parakala Mutt. It is located at No 100, Dharagunj, Opp: Dharagunj Police Station, adjacent to SBI, Dharagunj Branch. This is near Prayagraj Railway Station and has Airport connectivity too. This Mandir is in the care of local resident Sri Yamunacharji, a shishya of of Parakala Mutt. He is receiving a small sambhavanai from the Mutt for his services. The building is in a highly dilapidated state and is unsafe for human occupation. As per the niyamanam of our Acharya, we have recently decided to restore this old dilapidated building and bring it to current day standards.

This Restoration and Renovation work will be carried out in different phases. In the first phase, which has just been completed, the Garbha Gudi [Sanctom Sanctorum], Sabha Griha (Front Hall) and Madapalli (Temple Kitchen to make Prasad/Bhog) in the ground floor have been reconditioned. Also two rooms with Washrooms in ground floor and first floor have been added.
See LINK to PHOTOS of progress during the first phase

Work in the second phase includes coompletion of additional rooms and kainkaryaparas’ quarters, as well as additional repairs, resoration and reconstruction work. The Mutt solicits contributions from the shishyas and abhimanais for the restoration and renovation of this ancient Mutt siite.
