Current and Recent Activities of BSPSMS Trust

PROJECTS

1. Renovation and Addition work at ParakalaMutt, Tuppul, Kanchipuram

The Trust is supporting the addition of a set of four rooms on the first floor of the recently renovated ancient Parakala Mutt building at Tuppul for accommodating pilgrims visiting the holy shrines at and around  Kanchipuram. Details are as follows:

Project Status:  ONGOING

Project start date: December 2018

Project completion date: April 2019

Estimated Project cost: Rs. 21 lakh (Currentl BSPSMS Trust contribution: $15 lakh)

Project funding: Sri Parakala Matham, USA and local donations in India

Project Management: BSPSMS Trust directly manages, pays contractor and major vendors and engineering bills, monitors progress.

2.       Supporting of Sri Parakala Matham Hayagriva Sannidhi at Mahbubnagar, AP, India 

This funding at the annual level of Rs.1.2 lakh started in April 2014 and is being continued as an annual support. This additional support enables the fledgling Matham to carry on a base level of activities year after year. We will consider increasing this commitment in the coming years subject to availability of funds.

·         Funding Amount: Rs.10,000/month (Recurring)

·         Mode of Funding:  Direct Credit to Recipient’s Bank Account

·          Monitoring:  Quarterly Statement of Expenses, Periodic reports and/or photos of activities supported by the funds

3.       Supporting of Sri Parakala Matham Branch at Tuppul Kanjeevaram, TN, India

This funding started in 2015 at an annual level of Rs. 72,000. It is proposed to increase it to Rs. 1.2 lakh from 2019 onwards. This institution is the very first Parakala Matham started by Swamy Desikan in the 14th century with his disciple Sri Brahmatantra as the first Peethadhipati. This funding will supplement the meager income that this branch  presently receives mainly from devotee contributions.

4.       Supporting special functions at the Mysore Mutt

During the past two years, many functions like tirunakshatrams  of current and  past achaaryas,  are being supported at the Mysore Matham as and when needed on an ad hoc  basis. The average annual support has been around Rs.50,000. In 2018, the Trust supported the Celebration of the 750th birth anniversary of Sri Nigamantha Maha Deshikan.The celebrations included a Vidvat-Sadas and the republication of some of the rare religious books. The Trust contributed Rs. 5 lakh for this activity. The Trust gets receipts from the Mutt for these funds. Trustees usually attend these functions and ensure that the funds are utilized for the purpose advanced.

5.       Support of Adhyayanotsavam at Bangalore Parakala Mutt.

A 21-day celebration of Adhyayanotsavam during the month of December/January was started at the Bangalore Branch of Parakala matham in 2011 and it has since been continued as an annual event. This event during which the Tamil divya prabandham is recited has become a popular event at the Mutt. The most recent function was participated by over 300 men and women reciters.  BSPSMS Trust has been supporting this annual event since 2013 at a level of Rs. 1.5 lakh each year, which represents roughly 25% of the total expenses for conducting this utsavam. The Trust has made a commitment to continue this support in the future. The Trust receives a receipt from the Mutt for these funds. One or more Trustees are physically present on site at this function and ensure that the funds are appropriately used for the intended purpose.

§ Extend annual support to the Parakala Mutt institutions at Satyagalam and Krishnapuram in Karnataka

FUND RAISING

The Trust has applied and received two grans totaling $232,000 from Sri Parakala Matham, USA, and Parakala Lakshmi Hayagriva Mission, USA during 2014-18 with prior approval/under Registration under FCRA from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.The Trust has actively been seeking donations from devotees and disciples in India to support the various projects listed above. So far, in the last few years, the Trust has received about Rs. 30 lakh from these donors.

Completed Projects.

1.       Construction of Dining Hall and a set of residential quarters for the aradhakas and paricharakas at the Parakala Mutt headquarters, Krishna Vilas Agrahara, Mysore.

Project Status:  (COMPLETED IN SEPTEMBER 2016)

Area:  8000 set in two floors. Ground Floor houses the function/dining Hall of 4000 set area. First Floor houses 6 one- bed room plus one studio flats of total  area of 4000 set.

Project completion date: September 2016 (Completed)

Project cost: Rs. 1.4 crores (Final)
