Sancharam through Boston Area  (August 17 – August 24, 2011)

Sri LakShmi Hayagreeva’s first Dolai sanchAram through USA under the auspices of Sri Parakala Mutt, Mysore began with perumAL arriving in the Boston area on the 17^th of August 2011 along with His parivAram consisting of Sri shaThAri Srimad bhAShyakarar, Swami Desikan. He stayed with His parivAram at the home of Geetha and Ramaprian until Aug 24 after which He moved to the residence of Sri Krishna Bhattar.  PerumAL and His parivAram will be leaving the Boston area on September 12 for Hopewell Junction, NY to begin an 8-week long sanchAram across the USA, visiting a dozen cities.  While in the Boston area He graced the homes of several devotes receiving tirumanjanams/ Dolais and other kainkaryams from them and delighting every one and showering His anugraham on the devotee community of this area. There were 3 tirumanjanams and 4 Dolai sevais performed in this area excluding the samprokshanam with tirumanjanam and Krishna Jayanti sevais.  The schedule and a brief summary of these events as reported by the respective kainkaryaparas is given below.

Summary of Events

Arrival of Perumal at the home of Geetha and Ramaprian at Arlington MA and samprokshanam

PerumAL, along with Sri ShaThAri, and accompanied by Srimad Ramanuja and Swamy Desikan arrived at 9 P.M. on 17^th August 2011 at our home from India, in the arms of my grand son. They were received with Arathi into the house. Our ArAdhakar Sri Varadaraja Bhattar arrived the next day from Charlotte NC. He performed samprokShaNam with homam for the vigrahams and the Dolai on the morning of Thursday the 18th in a small function attended by our family members and a couple of invitees forming a small ghoShTi. The samprokShaNam was followed by tirumanjanam for Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva and His entourage. The function ended with shATrumurai and prasAda viniyogam.  The entire function which took about 4 hours was a beautiful and moving experience for us. It was difficult for us to imagine that we were actually having in our home Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva in the very same form that was worshipped by HH Parakala Jeer for the last 2 months at Sri Matham!

For the next three days we hardly saw Perumal at our home. He would set out early in the morning on His sanchAram visiting other devotee houses and arrive late at night to have His yoganidrA at our home.

Tirumanjannam and Dolai at Sudha and Jayakrishna’s residence at Acton MA on Friday morning August 21, 2011

Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva Perumal along with Udayavar and Sri Nigamantha MahaDesikan, gracefully descended on our kudil.   Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva Perumal and the Acharyas , were duly received with Poorna Kumbham and aarthi. It was a momentous occasion for our family and we were just  consumed by the daya of Perumal and Acharyas.

A very grand Thirumanajanam was performed by Shri Varadaraja Bhattar with milk, honey, manjal and sandal wood powder.  One could view the resplendent form of Sri Lakshmi Hayvadhana Perumal during the manja kaapu. It was truly a sight to behold.  Once thirumanajanam was complete , Sri Vardaraja Bhattar performed a fantastic alankaram with flowers and the thiruman on Perumal and the acharyas was truly amazing and it seemed like Perumal and acharyas were in their swaroopam and not just in their archa form.

The kids later rendered wonderful songs and music and recited a few slokas beginning with the Hayagriva Stotram.  An archana as performed and sambhavanai kramam and acharya taniyans were recited. The function concluded with prasadam served as lunch to all the bhagavathas.  It was truly a blessing for our family, as this was the first ever Dolai and Thirumanjanam of Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva Perumal in the US and to see it happen in Boston and our home was a very touching moment and our family felt very blessed to host Perumal and Acharyas at our kudil. Words simply cannot express the feelings of our family and the daya of our acharyas and the Divya Dampatis, to have made it possible to visit our humble abode. The time came for Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva Perumal to visit the next bhagavatha,s home and we could only pray that we get many more opportunities to get blessed by Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva perumal along with Udayavar and Kavitarkika Simahan.

Thirumanjanam and Dolai at Vimala and Sowmyanarayanan's residence at Nashua, NH on Saturday morning Aug 20, 2011

PerumAl, along with Sri ShaThAri, and accompanied by Srimad Ramanuja and Swamy Desikan arrived at about 8:20 AM, and  were received into the house with pUrNa Kumbam , Arathi and a small Upanishad verse. Chanting of Suprabatham was performed as the divine parivaram were being settled, the devotees recited ThiruppallAndu, Thiruppalliyezhuchchi and ThiruppAvai. Thirumanjanam was performed accompanied by the chanting of Sikshvalli, Purushu Suktham, sri Suktham and Perirazhwar Neerattam pasuram. ArAdhakar Sri Varadaraja Bhattar performed an excellent thirumanjanam. This was followed by alamkaram during which Thirumangaiazhwar pasuram (ashtAkshara mahimai), amalanAdhipiran, kaNNinuN siruthAmbu, Ulagamunda peru vaya, garuda panchakam, Sudarshanashtakam, etc were chanted.

During dolai upacharam was performed for the Divine Beings in the forms of songs and stotras. After Sattumurai and Sambavana, Sri LakshmiHayagreeva and the divine parivaram blessed the devotees with Thirtham, Thulsi, and shaTari and prasadam. After prasadam, Sri LakshmiHayagreeva and the divine Goshti were sent off to the chanting of a few verses from Siriya Thirumadal.

It was a wonderful experience and we are indeed most fortunate to receive Swami LakshmiHayagreeva's anugraham.

Dolai at Sumeeta and Srivathsan's home, Newton, MA 3-5.30 pm, Saturday 8/20/2011

Sri LakshmiHayagreeva Perumal and the acharyas were welcomed to our home with aarathi, poornakumbham and naathaswaram music(Telisi Rama by Adyar Sri. Jayaraman). After setting up the oonjal, ArAdhakar Sri Varadaraja Bhattar did a beautiful alamkaaram of the dhivya dampathi and performed archana. Many children assisted in making garlands for the alankaaram. Over 50 bhaagavathas, old and young, recited Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, followed by Hayagreeva stotram. Perumal and Thaayar were entertained by vocal, mridangam and keyboard music by the children. The krithis included Vasudevayani, Jaya Jaya Janaki, Bantureethi, Yochana and Dhirasameere.Everybody joined in singing three bhajans. After sattrumurai and sambhavana, bhaagavathas received theertham, shataari and prasaadam.

It was a wonderful experience and we feel very fortunate to receive the divine blessings. Our many thanks to  Sri Varadaraja Bhattar, Ramapriyan mama and Jayakrishna for their kainkaryam.

Dolai at Kannabiran and Padmavathi residence at Wayland, MA  7 -9 PM, Saturday, August 20, 2011

Sri Lakshmi Hayagrivar along with Sri ShaThAri, and accompanied by Srimad Ramanuja and Swamy Dseikan arrived at 7 P.M. at our home   Permal and his entourage was received with Poorna Kumbham, Aarathi and Veda Manthra Gosham.  Sri Varadaraja Bhattar, Aradhakar for Perumal arranged the Dolai with the help of able volunteers and performed aradhanam.  The asthikas assembled on the occasion recited Vishnu Sahasranamam followed by devotional singing by individuals.  The Dolai for the “Annamai munivarodu amarareththa arumaraiyi velipaduththavamman” ended with shATrumurai from Thirunedunthandakam and prasAda viniyogam.   It appeared as though Perumal was there to witness His own Sri Lakshmi Hayagriva Archa form in our Perumal Sannidhi that was given by the Sri Parakala Matham few years back. The entire function took about 2 hours and was a beautiful and moving experience.

Tirumanjanam at Lakshmi and Devarajan's Residence, Shrewsbury, MA   Sunday  Aug 21

On the 3rd day of His sanchAram in USA, Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva Perumal arrived at our home at 9:00 am.    HE was received with Poorna Kumbam and Aarthi into our house.    Our ArAdhakar Sri Varadaraja Bhattar  started the preparations for Thirumanjanam.    With the Veda Ghosti reciting the suktams, Bhattar performed  Thirumanjanam for Perumal, ShaThAri and Acharyas with milk, honey, tender coconut water, sAdhanas kappu and majal kappu in an elaborate manner.   All the Bhagavathas enjoyed with devotion.      While Bhattar was doing Alankaram, Perumal was entertained with songs and music rendered by kids.   Kids recited Hayagreeva Stotram and other slokams also.    After the Alankaram  Perumal was decked in the Dolai adorned with lot of flowers and ornaments.    It was an unforgettable experience.  The program ended with Arathi, SaTrumurai and thadhiAradhanai.    The entire program lasted for about 4 hours and we all enjoyed every moment of it.    With our Acharyas Anugraham and Dhivya Dhampatis Grace we had the bhAgyam of hosting HH Parakalamutt Sri Lakshmi Hayagreevar Perumal at our house.    The whole function still lingers in our mind.   Thanks Shri. Ramapriyan for organizing this.

Dolai at  Sarita and Rajesh's residence at Nashua , NH  7-9.30 PM, Sundayy August 21 2011

On the eve of Sri Krishna Jayanthi, Emberuman in the form of Hayagrivar accompanied by Sri Lakshmi and Swamy Desikan came to grace and bless our humble residence.  PerumAl and Thaayar where brought in by ArAdhakar Sri Varadharaja Battar.  Bhattar performed the Dolai on the evening of the 21st attended by my parents visiting from India , friends and Boston Shloka group who formed the ghoShTi.  The members of the Boston Shlokha group recited venerated verses in the praise of the Lord and Thaayar.   The function was interspersed with songs on the Divine couple by bhakthas including children.  The function ended with shATrumurai and prasAda viniyogam.  This time around some of our local friends were bestowed with HIS grace and were really moved which in turn had us feeling blessed.  The entire function which took about 3 hours kept us longing for more.  We are indebted to HIS Divine Grace and the sincere efforts of a number of people who made this happen.

Sri Krishna Jayanti at the home of Geetha and Ramaprian on 22^nd August and Send Off to Perumal and His ParivAram on the 24^th.

We had another great opportunity to enjoy Perumal on the evening of Monday the 22nd when we celebrated Sri Krishna Jayanti with Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva adorning the Dolai along with Sri Krishna and our family sAligrAmams. We had our children and grand children with us attending the function. This Krishna Jayanti will certainly remain as one of the greatest moments in our life. 

The ArAdhakar left the next day to return to Charlotte NC. We performed nitya ArAdhanam for Perumal for the next two days at our home and on Wednesday August 24 afternoon, we gave an emotional send off to PerumAL and His associates with the recital of excerpts from siriya tirumaDal. Perumal will now grace the house of Sri Krishna Bhattar of Lakshmi temple at Boston till Sept 12 when He will begin His next phase of the USA sanchAram, starting from the NY/NJ area. Hopewell Junction NY will be His first stop.
