About Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva Dolai Tour of USA August 2011-October 2011

(July 15, 2011)

Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva accompanied by Srimad Ramanuja, Swamy Deshikan and Sri shaThAri will be touring several cities in the US during the period August 15 through October 31 of this year, receiving Tirumanjanam and Dolai sevas from devotees. The tour is being arranged under the auspices of Sri Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Mutt of Mysore and will be co-ordinated by Sri Parakala Matham, USA.

A Vigraham of Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva and a gold plated Dolai have just been made for this purpose. The Vigraham is a close replica of the celebrated Lakshmi Hayagreeva Moorthy that has come down to us from Sri Saraswati via Srimad Ramanuja and Swamy Deshikan and has been the reigning Deity at Sri Matham ever since its founding by Swamy Deshikan over 700 years ago. The Vigraham and Dolai were consecrated in June 2011 by HH Parakala Swamy in a grand samprokShaNam ceremony at the Parakala Mutt Branch in Hyderabad. Since then, HH has been performing daily Aradhanams, and periodic tirumanjanams for the Deity at the Matham. He will be continuing these till we bring the Vigraham to the US in August. We have already brought the Dolai to the US last week. The Vigraham will receive a samprokShaNam after it arrives in Boston in August.

The Dolai Tour will officially start from Boston on August 18. An Araadhakar (Sri Varadaraja Bhattar from Rochester, NY) will be our Priest for the Tour. He will accompany PerumAL on the tour rendering the kainkaryams at the devotees’ houses. He is 62 years old and has a life time of experience as an Araadhakar at temples and is well versed in tradition. HH Parakala Jeer knows him and his family and has approved him for this kainkaryam. The Dolai Tour will span an effective period of 7 weeks and will cover several cities in the East, Midwest, South and Pacific Northwest, including the greater metropolitan areas of Boston, NY/NJ, Detroit, Chicago, Washington DC, Raleigh, Atlanta and Seattle. Volunteers have come forward to host and provide transport for PerumAL and Araadhakar at the various cities. With few exception, the Tour will spend one week at each of the greater metropolitan areas. A week-by-week schedule for the Tour is given below. The names and contact information for the local co-ordinators for each week are also given there.

Tirumanjanams are performed during the mornings (8 AM -12 Noon) and dolais are performed during afternoons (say, 3PM-5PM) and evenings (say,7PM-9PM) at the homes of sponsoring devotees. Approximately 50 devotees have already signed up as sponsors for the Tirumanjanam/ Dolai kainkaryams. Most of the week-end slots and some week day slots have been filled. On days without any scheduled events, nitya Aradhanams will be performed for Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva at the residence of the local host.

This Dolai Tour of Sri Hayagreeva is being made possible by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by a large number of devotees, who are shishyas of different mathams and samapradAyams but share in common the devotion to Sri Hayagreeva and Swamy Deshikan. It is due to their support and generous financial contributions to meet the up-front costs associated with this undertaking, that we have come so far in this effort. We appeal to all the devotees in the cities and neighborhood communities covered by the Dolai Tour to make full use of this great opportunity to have the darshanam and blessings of Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva, “The God of Learning”. There are a limited number of Tirumanjanam and Dolai slots still available. Suggested sponsorship fee is $500 for Tirumanjanam (which includes Dolai) and $250 for Dolai (alone). If you wish to sponsor an event, please call the local co-ordinator listed for your area. If no suitable slots are available, please explore with him other possible opportunities for you and your family to have the darshanam of Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva, during the week PerumAL stays in your area.

The net proceeds from the Dolai Tour will go to support the maintenance and activities of Sri Matham at Mysore. If you wish to make any contributions to this effort, please send your checks made payable to Sri Parakala Matham (USA) to Sudarshan Agaram, 21653 Piccadilly Circus Ct, Ashburn VA 20147. Alternately, you may pay by credit card by going to the Matham web site at www.parakalamatham.org/node/66 and using the last pay Button (“Any other Matham activity”)
